Announcing the immediate availability of the XAML Spy April 2014 Update (version 2.1.0). This update supports the brand new Windows Phone 8.1 SDK, and includes a massive amount of fixes and improvements. The most prominent changes are described below, see the release notes for a complete overview of all changes. Windows Phone 8.1 SDK The Windows Phone 8.1 SDK introduces two app models; Windows Phone 8.1, providing common APIs across Windows and Windows Phone, and Silverlight 8.

XAML Spy and Visual Studio Express

XAML Spy is fully integrated with Visual Studio 2012 and 2013. Enabling or disabling XAML Spy for a XAML project is super easy, and the XAML Spy Explorer provides convenient access to your XAML app internals right from within Visual Studio. Visual Studio Express That’s all great, but what if you are using Visual Studio Express? The Express products offer Visual Studio for free (which is great), but extensions are not supported.

Patch for Store apps referencing C++ extensions

A patch for XAML Spy is now available addressing an issue that may occur in Windows Store apps when referencing one or more C++ extensions. Issue When using XAML Spy on a Windows Store 8.0 or 8.1 app, the XAML Spy property grid may display the following error: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B). The error is caused by XAML Spy incorrectly trying to load an unmanaged library for reflection purposes.

XAML Spy February 2014 Update

Announcing the XAML Spy February 2014 Update. This update introduces the standalone XAML Spy app, which enables spying of XAML apps outside Visual Studio. Standalone The standalone XAML Spy app, previously available in XAML Spy version 1, is now enabled in version 2. Use the standalone app to spy on XAML apps when you do not want or need to use Visual Studio 2012 and 2013. Like in XAML Spy version 1, the look and feel of the standalone app comes from Modern UI for WPF.

This week I was in Redmond to record a video on XAML Spy for Channel 9. The episode is now live. In this episode, Robert is joined by Koen Zwikstra, the author of XAML Spy, a visual runtime inspector for Silverlight, Windows Phone, Windows Store and WPF apps. Koen shows how to use XAML Spy to view an app’s visual tree, examine and modify properties of any element, browse files in isolated storage and more.

First Floor Software is proud to announce a massive update to XAML Spy. Among many improvements, the XAML Spy January 2014 Update (version 2.0.5) adds support for spying XAML apps for which the source code is not available. Add App wizard The new Add App button in the XAML Spy Explorer toolbar launches the Add App wizard, that allows for adding any XAML app (with and without source code) with just a few mouse clicks.

XAML Spy for Visual Studio enables spying on Silverlight, Windows Phone, Windows Store and WPF apps right in Visual Studio. This RTM release includes XAML Spy Express, the free edition of XAML Spy. XAML Spy Express provides a limited, but useful set of features that allow you to spy on XAML apps for free.

Announcing the immediate availability of XAML Spy Beta 2. This update brings performance improvements, enhanced automation support and addresses a number of issues reported by users (thank you!). See the release notes for a full list of changes. Beta Feel free to install and use this public beta to spy on your XAML apps. The release is fully functional, and does not require a license until October 21, 2013. After October 21, you’ll need a valid license to continue using the beta.
